It is time to think about those people within our community who do so much, but don’t always get recognition!
These are the awards:
1. Young Citizen Award
Criteria: A Person under 25 years old who has given charitable or voluntary service to the community in Westhoughton or overcome a significant challenge in their life to give back to the community. (E.G. sport, entertainment, politics, voluntary services, children and young people, charity fundraising for a Westhoughton charity or shown an act of bravery, organising or supporting local charity events.)
2. Environmental Award
Criteria: A local group, school, religious group, business or individual who, through environmental initiatives, has worked to improve the local Westhoughton area for the benefit of everyone in the community. (E.G. planting, weeding, litter picking, recycling initiatives etc.) Pictorial evidence would be helpful.
3.Civic Award and the Harold Daniels Memorial Trophy
Criteria: An individual over 25 years old who has provided a significant number of years of charitable or voluntary service to the community in Westhoughton. (E.G. Sport, entertainment, politics, voluntary services, children and young people, charity fundraising or organising or supporting charitable events.) The recipient will receive a civic medal and the Harold Daniels Memorial Trophy, which will be kept for one year.
4. Citizen Award
Criteria: A Person over 25 years old who has given charitable or voluntary service to the community in Westhoughton or overcome a significant challenge in their life to give back to the community. (E.G. sport, entertainment, politics, voluntary services, children and young people, charity fundraising for a Westhoughton charity or shown an act of bravery, organising or supporting local charity events.)
Members of the public are invited to fill in the nomination form, giving as much detail as possible about the nominated person’s achievements and service to the Westhoughton Community. Nominees do not have to be a resident of Westhoughton to qualify, but nominations submitted by family members must also have support from a member of the public. Nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence. Serving Town Councillors are not eligible and former or retired Councillors receiving an award would be required to declare their intention in writing not to seek re-election.
