Current Projects

The Town Council has set up working groups to tackle specific issues or projects. On this page you’ll find more information about each of the projects.

Improving town centre CCTV

For more than 30 years Westhoughton Town Council has funded CCTV in the town centre. Now the town council is looking to modernise the scheme and is considering newer technology and reviewing the locations of the cameras.

Replacing public benches

We know that some of our public benches have fallen into disrepair, so we’re looking at improving the benches so that they can continue to be enjoyed by residents.

Improving town council communications

The town council is looking to improve the way it communicates about its work with Westhoughton residents, so it has launched this new website and is looking at making it easier to contact your councillor as well as reviewing how the council can communicate through social media and printed newsletters.

Reviewing defibrillators

Westhoughton has good defibrillator coverage but we know that there are some gaps, which the town council is keen to fill to ensure that all residents have access to one nearby should they need to. It is also important that all defibrillators are registered to the national database and the council is working to ensure that this is so.

There has been some successful training for the public in the use of defibrillators and it is hoped that this will be a repeated in the future.

Big Plant initiative

The town council is keen to make Westhoughton more green, so has launched a new Big Plant initiative. This is starting with the planting of 4,000 daffodils across the town, involving the help of local schoolchildren from all of Westhoughton’s schools.
