Planting Hope!

Planting next years colour!

Westhoughton Town Councillors and residents enjoyed a sunny morning on Friday 29th September 2023 at Diddy Bottle Park.
It was our first date for The Big Plant planting daffodils. We understand this park was created in 1908 and the shape of the park resembles a baby’s feeding bottle.

In the photograph busy at the park are Councillors Linda Maher, Martin Tighe, Gillian Wroe, Alison  Jackson and Ollie Younge (the Mayor’s Consort and former Councillor) and Shelia a local resident.

As we began to plant passers-by gave us some very positive comments and a resident, Delyse donated some white hyacinth bulbs to plant in the border alongside the white gladioli, Danielle a local resident has chosen a white theme for this border, and it looks great.

In the other border we planted 200 daffodils, some snowdrops and blue bells . We also did some more weeding. In preparation for the bulb planting,  those of us who could had visited the site on several occasions to clear the weeds, glass, stones, and litter. We finished the morning with a final tidy and a thorough brush round. We think the area looks much better and we look forward to the spring to see our efforts in bloom.

Councillor Gillian Wroe has had a slate sign made for the park which she hopes to put up soon.

It was a really fun experience, and everyone commented on how much they had enjoyed the morning.

Please join us for planting dates for the park,
