Heroes Memorial Cup

Councillor Gillian Wroe, in her capacity as Deputy Town Mayor, alongside her Consort Councillor Alison Jackson, attended the Heroes Memorial Cup held at Daisy Hill Football Club. Councillor Wroe said:

“On Sunday afternoon I had the honour of attending the Darren Deady and Lee Rigby Foundations charity football match as Deputy Mayor of Westhoughton with my Consort Cllr Alison Jackson. The money raised at the event will be shared between the two charities.

It was a pleasure to meet Darren Deady’s mum Julie Hall and Lee Rigby’s mum Lyn Rigby, two amazing, inspirational women.

Also represented were the Westhoughton branch of the Royal British Legion (Chairman Marcus Pollard carrying the Standard which was being used for the first time in 7 years), the RAFA Leigh branch and the 1471 RAF Air Cadets.

I was very lucky to win the hand painted ‘Military Duck’ on the Legion’s stall! “
