Tom Newton Honoured

On Friday 6th June, the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr David Chadwick opened the newly refurbished room at The Hub at Westhoughton, called the Tom Newton MBE room. Cllr Chadwick unveiled the room signs with Mrs Margaret Newton unveiling a wall display in Tom’s memory. Guests from the Westhoughton Local History Group, local Councillors and friends of Tom were invited to peruse the various memorabilia displayed in the room for the occasion from Tom’s watercolour paintings, various certificates and programmes of productions in which he was involved and also several wooden models which he handcrafted. Also on display was his MBE and certificate from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
